Uber Eats has upped the ante with the release of its Super Bowl LV commercial, which sees the Wayne’s World leads reuniting almost three decades after the film’s release.
Mike Meyers and Dana Carvey assumed the lead roles in the 1992 comedy, Wayne’s World. The Mike Meyers co-written film spawned one of the most memorable scenes, where two of the characters, Wayne Campbell (Meyers) and Garth Algar (Carvey), were dancing in the basement to Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. The film is often cited as one of the most timeless comedic films.
The film’s timelessness has been proven with the reception that the new Uber Eats Super Bowl LV commercial has received. Firstly, the reunion of the two comedic legends comes more that 29 years since the release of the film, and marks a reunion of the two actors as their iconic on-screen characters.
To promote the commercial, Uber Eats started with the release of the teaser of the commercial. The seven-second clip showcased how Uber Eats was incorporated into the memorable theme song from the film. The revised lyrics have been quoted as, “Local eats. Wayne’s World. Yummy time. Excellent.”
However, the food delivery company did not take long to release the actual Super Bowl commercial, considering that the commercial was released on the same day as the teaser on Sunday, 31 January 2021. The commercial sees the two attempt to tease their appearance at the Super Bowl, with the twist being that the two cannot say the words, “Super Bowl.”
The result thereof is a comical exchange, which sees the two tag-teaming and finding other ways of confirming that they will be appearing at the biggest night for television commercials on American television. During the commercial, Myers humorously states, “We just wanted to say that we’ll see you soon for the… game, which for legal reasons cannot be named.”
