Taco Bell’s Nacho Fries commercial is a great suspense thriller trailer which failed at garnering the comedic relief it was meant to provide as the payoff for the commercial.
Taco Bell took to YouTube on Monday, 11 January 2021, to share a commercial promoting the return of the nacho fries. The commercial is shot as a suspense thriller trailer where actor Joe Keery attempts to escape his cravings by secluding himself. Another famous actor part of the commercial is Sarah Hyland. The music used was to intensify the suspense and amplify the mystery of it all expressed in the editing of the commercial. The advertising agency behind the commercial was the Los Angeles based creative agency Deutsch.
The quality of the commercial is the most commendable aspect of the commercial. But overall the commercial failed to produce what can only be suspected as the purpose of the commercial. The commercial was meant to subvert suspense into comedy. However, there was never a comical payoff to the commercial. Overall it provided an ominous take on craving nacho fries without the provision of laughter at the end to suggest that we all craved the nacho fries hence their return. In the commercial, it made it feel like we should crave nacho fries or risk death.
