Is Porter Cable going out of business?

While Porter Cable has not released a new line of power tools of late, the brand has not gone out of business; its online platform is still up and running.

Porter Cable is a manufacturing company that focuses on producing hardware and power tools. In 2020, it failed to produce a new line of power tools. New ranges had become the norm for the company, therefore, when it did not produce a new line, speculations on whether the business was in the red arose. The speculations were further fuelled by the fact that it was the pandemic and multiple stores and brands were closing their doors.

Case in point, the last press release shared on the company’s online store was back in 2018. This was when the brand was introducing the new saw tiles, stating, “Porter Cable announces new, innovative cordless and corded table top tile saws for professionals and DIYers. Both the 20V MAX* Table Top Wet Tile Saw (PCC780LA) and 7” Table Top Wet Tile Saw (PCE980) feature a sliding cart, providing accuracy and stability through every cut. “

However, the company has not publicly commented on the state of its operations currently or why it did not release a new line as expected. However, what the company did do is continue as if everything has been running smoothly. The company’s online store is still functional, offering clients the platform to purchase a variety of accessories and hardware power tools. The online store’s continued operations suggest that the brand is not out of business.

Although the business is operational online, there are changes in its offering that suggest that the company is facing some sort of financial difficulty, such as the discontinuation of all of the Porter Cable cordless power tools. Again, the company has yet to speak on the reason for the decision. According to reports, the company is looking to refocus on the woodworking lines instead of the cordless.
