Cheetos subverts initial teasers in final Super Bowl commercial

Cheetos has shared the third Super Bowl LV commercial, showing an unexpected conclusion to the narrative presented by Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis in the previous two.

Cheetos finally unveiled the official Super Bowl LV commercial on Monday, 1 February 2021. The commercial subverted the setup of the two teasers that were previously released, which also introduced the celebrities that feature as the ambassadors of the 2021 edition of the Cheetos marketing campaign.

The cheese puff snack company has used the same model that it used in 2020, which saw MC Hammer as the ambassador. His hit song, Can’t Touch This, was the premise of the series of commercials that he fronted during the build-up to the 2020 Super Bowl. In the commercials, the song was used as a cautionary response to those who wanted to touch his pack of Cheetos.

Therefore, the company did the same thing in the commercial with Shaggy’s hit single, It Wasn’t Me. However, the company first teased the revelation by starting with the ominous teaser with Ashton Kutcher finding out a dark, undisclosed secret.

In the subsequent teaser, Mila Kunis appeared crying and pleading her innocence, only to have her break out of character to ask Shaggy if her performance was believable. The teaser functioned to confirm that the celebrity couple will both feature in the final commercial, alongside Shaggy. Hence, in the final commercial, the premise is a comical take on Kunis’ suggested addiction for Cheetos, rather than an infidelity.
